Hoop in Expansion Teachers

Catherine Flournoy

Hoopdance allows Catherine to marry two of her favorite worlds, fluid movement and sound, as one. Having studied meditative movement from martial arts to various forms of dance in childhood, she also studied the piano from the age of five and later the violin. In 2005 Catherine was transfixed by the hoop arts and fell in love instantly, there was no doubt hoopdance awakened something very deep within her that spanned lifetimes. Devoted to her spiritual practice, it was a natural progression when hoopdance merged with it to become one life advancement tool: she became more community oriented and stepped into being a heart-to-heart hoopdance facilitator who, by grace, offers hoopdance first and foremost as a tool for great joy and empowerment, deep inner exploration, ecstatic dance and a heightened sense of liberation. Catherine is a Master Hoop in Expansion Teacher, Rising Star and Prema Birthing practitioner, bodywork therapist and, when time permits, an amateur gourmet cook and published freelance writer. Melissa Sperandeo

Melissa kept going for it even though the hoop kept falling to the floor. She was sore, sweaty, determined, and smiling. And then, eventually it just started to feel right. There was ease and rhythm and when she closed her eyes it was just her body dancing, quiet mind, open heart, and all of those lovely circles. Barely keeping the hoop on her waist, she knew it was special and dreamt that she could share this through teaching anyone who wistfully gazed upon a hoop. Melissa's style of teaching draws upon her experience in tai chi, aikido, as a bodyworker, and a lover of dance. It is her experience that the hoop is a powerful tool to combat a sedentary lifestyle, balance subtle energies of the body, calm the mind, clear out stagnation, awaken grace, beauty, and spontaneity, make friends, and smile ear to ear. Her wish for her students is that each one will experience confidence, comfort, grace, peace, and love in the hoop and beyond.
